Developing a Simpler Fare Structure.
In 2023, DART performed a comprehensive review and analysis of its fare policy. Based on the results, DART has identified a new, simplified structure for fares. We need your input to help inform the DART team and our Board of Directors as they consider these changes.
Review the proposed fare adjustment below.
**Changes associated with calendar year-based programs (such as corporate, educational institution, and low-income fare programs) would be effective January 1, 2025.
Make your voice heard! Your thoughts and opinions will guide the DART Board and staff as we consider the best fare solution for our riders and the communities we serve.
Please:
DART is engaging the community for comments regarding a proposed fare restructure. The agency will host community meetings and station open houses throughout the service area. During these events, DART staff will outline the new fare proposal and receive your feedback. By providing your input, you will make your voice heard.
This process will include a formal public hearing on Tuesday, Aug. 27, at 6 p.m. at DART Headquarters (located at Akard Station – 1401 Pacific Ave., Dallas, TX, 75202).

DART held a public hearing on August 27, 2024, and presented a proposal to amend the DART fare structure. The amended fare structure was approved and will go into effect on March 1, 2025.
If you are a member of the DART Corporate Annual Pass Program, the Local Annual Passes will remain the same, with rates starting at $720 in January, along with the Regional Annual Passes starting at $1,440 (prorated each month). The pass options for riders not participating in the Corporate Annual Pass Program include the Day Pass ($6) or the Monthly Pass ($126). For more information on becoming a Corporate Annual Pass Program member, please visit https://pass.dart.org/ or email [email protected].
To ensure there is no disproportional impact to low-income and minority riders, DART is proposing to increase the monthly pass price to $126 while keeping our day pass price at $6. Fewer riders are now using monthly passes, and the change will preserve more affordable service for the larger customer group who use day passes.
We heard feedback from our riders that it was confusing to figure out which pass to buy among the variety of passes available for different parts of the day. The new fare structure simplifies our daily fare options into either a day pass, or a 3-hour pass that can be applied any time of day.
You can share your comments in the following ways:
If approved, the Discount GoPass Tap card program will become permanent. If you meet the qualifications, you will still be eligible to participate. Your reduced fare will now expire one year from the date you apply.
Additionally, DART is proposing to offer Veterans a discounted fare, but they will also have to apply for a DART-issued reduced fare GoPass Tap photo ID card online or in person.
The DART Board is expected to vote on the proposed fare structure in October 2024. If approved, most of the fare changes will take effect on March 1, 2025.
Additional details about the fare restructure and how to provide input are available at DART.org/FareUpdates.
Yes. DART will continue to have fare boxes on its buses to accept cash fares. However, under the proposed fare change, the single ride fare will be replaced with a 3-hour pass at a cost of $3 for full fare and $1.50 for reduced fare. Fare boxes will issue 3-hour passes.
Yes. Seniors aged 65 and older are eligible for a reduced fare, but they must register for a reduced fare GoPass® Tap card. To obtain a tap card, seniors will need to visit DARTmart at Akard Station in Downtown Dallas or register online at https://www.DART.org/reduced. Seniors must complete an application and show a government-issued ID to receive a DART-issued reduced fare GoPass Tap card.
Under the proposed plan, the cost of a day pass will remain $6, while the cost of a monthly pass will increase to $126 for full fare and $63 for reduced fare. The single ride (bus and GoLink only), AM, PM, and midday passes will be replaced with a standard 3-hour pass, which costs $3 for full fare and $1.50 for reduced fare. Riders will need to purchase a day pass or use a payment type with fare capping to ensure they do not pay more than $6 per day.
DART is considering simplifying the fare structure by consolidating the single ride (bus and GoLink only), AM, PM, and midday passes into one standard 3-hour Pass. The cost of a day pass will remain the same, and the cost of a monthly pass will increase. DART has also proposed eliminating the retail annual pass.
Other changes under consideration include:
*Changes associated with calendar year-based programs such as corporate, educational institution, and low-income fare programs would be effective January 1, 2025.
All of DART's revenue sources, including sales tax and passenger revenue, must grow to financially support the operation, maintenance, and expansion of the DART System. DART routinely reviews its fare structure to ensure the agency is in good financial standing and that current and future customers have an easy experience interacting with the DART fare system.
