Public invited to discuss three potential locations DART expansion triggers need for second rail maintenance facility DART's expansion to Farmers Branch, Carrollton, Irving and DFW Airport means more miles of track, more light rail cars, plus more space to support its growing rail service. Three potential sites for a second light rail maintenance facility will be reviewed Monday, April 29 during a public hearing.
The new facility will be used to maintain and store approximately 100 rail cars for future DART expansion, including the planned Northwest Corridor. All three sites under consideration are located on Denton Drive: at Lombardy (northeast corner), at Northwest Highway (northwest corner) and at Webb Chapel (southwest corner). The 17.5-mile Northwest Corridor line will run from downtown Dallas north along Harry Hines Boulevard and the former Union Pacific Railroad. The line continues through Dallas and Farmers Branch north to Frankford Road in Carrollton. A 13-mile branch of the line from Northwest Highway to the Las Colinas Urban Center and DFW Airport is scheduled. Speakers at the hearing must pre-register through DART Community Affairs, 214-749-2543. Written comments should be sent to: DART Community Affairs, Northwest Rail Operating Public Hearing, P. O.
