DART Construction Update

Temporary Lane Closures on Section of LBJ Freeway Planned Friday Night

Parts of LBJ Freeway between Miller Road and Skillman Street will be closed this weekend due to the demolition of a railroad bridge over the freeway. The construction is part of DART's light rail expansion into northeast Dallas and Garland. This extension of the Blue Line from DART's Mockingbird Station will reach downtown Garland in 2002.

The LBJ bridge demolition is scheduled to begin Friday, August 4, at 8 p.m. and end Monday, August 7, at 6 a.m. Lane closures, in both directions, will be required during this period. All lanes of LBJ Freeway between Miller and Skillman may be closed for short periods of time between 12 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Saturday. Traffic may be detoured to Royal and Skillman during that time.

Construction crews will take the bridge down in two sections. East and west sections of the bridge will be cut away from the train track and moved with a crane. The current bridge will be replaced with a new bridge with two train tracks that are more suitable for DART's light rail system.
