Commute for $20 per month

Special discounted monthly rate for vanpool customers

DART's Vanpool Program pricing keeps getting better. Effective May 1, customers can get to work for $20 a month. That's much less than the price of a tank of gas!

Through North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) funds, DART is reducing its $500 monthly rate to $200 for a 15-passenger van and only $185 for an 8-passenger van. These prices are good for all vanpool customers.

DART Vanpoolers (from left to right) Jan Keen from Terrell, Sally Huff from Wills Point, Carolyn Parker from Wills Point, LeAnne Armstrong from Terrell and Tamiko Sockwell from Ben Wheeler get ready for their commute home.

Hundreds in money-saving incentives
Now is the best time to join the program. New vanpool groups who sign up before September 30 will also receive a $5 Starbucks gift card per participant. In addition, DART will waive the monthly fee for the second month. And after three months, the incentives keep coming -- each rider will receive a $25 Wal-Mart gift card.

Vanpool captains save even more. Captains must meet driving eligibility requirements and are responsible for the van. In return, vanpool captains can ride for free and can use the van for up to 250 miles of personal use each month. After three months, each captain will receive a $50 Wal-Mart gift card.

More than 941 people and 30 companies are participating in DART's vanpool program. To meet the growing demand, DART has provisioned 37 additional vans for 2007 - raising the total number to 120.

How it works
DART can help match groups of six to 15 people with similar work schedules who live or work near each other within Dallas and surrounding counties where bus and rail service is limited. Origin or destination must be inside the DART service area.

Vanpool members share the monthly vanpool rental cost plus fuel. The rental cost covers maintenance, insurance and the vehicle. Participants can tailor the service to meet their needs. Some have single-employer riders, while others bring commuters together with similar origin and destination points. Vanpools can carry commuters to the heart of the central business district, to outlying business areas, across town or even to DART Rail stations.

Vanpooling gives commuters time to organize their day on their way to work and unwind during the ride home. It also saves money in auto maintenance and fuel expenses, and can even reduce some auto insurance premiums. Vanpoolers can also commute faster by traveling in DART's high-occupancy vehicle lanes.

Vanpools also help employers
This tax-exempt program also helps employers recruit and retain employees. Employees arrive at their jobs on time, well-rested, relaxed and ready to work. It all adds up to increased productivity.
