DART Poetry in Motion series kicks-off
Media Relations Contact: March 23, 2007 DART Poetry in Motion series kicks-off A trip on DART becomes a poetic adventure as the agency and Richland College launch this year's Poetry In Motion series. Fifteen poems will be on display on DART buses and light-rail vehicles giving commuters a more pleasurable and enlightening experience.
Featured poems include ones by recognized poets, such as William Shakespeare's "Othello" and Samuel Menashe's "Promised Land." Riders will also enjoy the work of local poets including Shin Yu Pai's "Stones." To view all 15 selected poems please visit www.DART.org/Poetry. A distinguished committee of local publishers, editors, educators and booksellers selected the poems, which are placed in advertising spaces in more than 600 buses and 115 light rail vehicles, with five new poems going up every three months over the next year. Inspired by a similar program in the London Underground, Poetry In Motion is a national program coordinated by the Poetry Society of America and was brought to North Texas by DART in 1998 to enhance public exposure to poetry in the agency's service area. Since then, it has gained support from local businesses across North Texas and is enjoyed by thousands of riders daily.
