Joppa Rides is a new transportation service for residents of the Joppa community provided by the City of Dallas and DART. Service starts Nov. 15, 2021.
You are eligible for the program if you live in the Joppa community, but you must register and provide proof of residency.
Once you are registered, you will be able to book a ride to nearby neighborhood locations using the Uber app. If you use Joppa Rides to connect to other DART services, a regular DART fare is required to board buses or trains.
To request a ride, a rider must be at least 18 years of age. Anyone under that age must be accompanied by an adult 18 years old or older on all Joppa Rides trips. Each Joppa Rides Uber trip can include up to four people.
No smartphone? No problem. You can book a trip online at m.Uber.com or make a same-day trip reservation over the phone at 214-515-7272. You also can schedule trips requiring an accessible vehicle at 214-515-7272.
The Joppa Rides program operates 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week, which coincides with most DART fixed-route bus, rail, and paratransit service. You may book up to two (2) FREE Uber trips per day.
If you are an existing Uber user, provide DART with the email address attached to your Uber account when you register for the Joppa Rides program to ensure you receive your qualified Uber trips. If you set up a new Uber account, use the same email address you listed on your Joppa Rides registration form.
The Uber app is made for use on smartphones. If you don't have the Uber app already, you can download it for free from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
If you do not have a smartphone, you can sign up for an Uber account at Uber.com. Then, you can login to your Uber account at m.Uber.com and request a ride from the website.
Schedule a ride
Open the Uber app, then tap the button that says, "Ride," or the button that says, "Now," located just to the right of the "Where to?" bar.
Provide pickup info
Set your pickup date, time, location, destination, and ride type. For all Joppa Rides trips, you should select the "UberX" service type.
Click or slide the round button at the bottom of the screen to the suitcase icon to select your "business" profile. The text next to the button should say, "Dallas Area Rapid Transit."
If your trip origin and destination are located within the Joppa Rides service area, there will be no charge for the first two trips each day.
Get set to ride
Confirm the details of your upcoming trip and tap "Schedule." Edit or cancel any time before your ride. Learn more about the cancellation policy below in the Frequently Asked Questions.
* Fare: If you are registered to receive the Joppa Rides service, when you book an eligible trip with Uber, the cost will be shown as $0. No coupon code is needed.
If you do not have a smartphone or are unable to schedule a trip on a computer, then registered residents can call 214-515-7272 to schedule a Joppa Rides trip through DART Mobility Management Services.
Registered Joppa residents may schedule an accessible trip by calling DART Mobility Management Services at 214-515-7272. Please tell the dispatcher what kind of assistance you need when you call.
Accessible vehicles can accommodate a wheelchair, motorized scooter, walker or other mobility device. DART also can help riders needing visual or hearing assistance.
To schedule an accessible vehicle, please call a day in advance to schedule your trip to ensure an accessible vehicle is available.
What counts as a "trip" in the Joppa Rides program?
A "trip" is a one-way trip. For example, if you use the Joppa Rides program to take Uber from your home to the Fiesta Mart grocery store, that is one trip. If you get a ride from Fiesta Mart back to your house, that is your second trip. Each registered Joppa resident can take two free trips per day.
If two or more people want to travel at the same time, how does that work?
Each Joppa Rides trip can transport up to four passengers. Only one person in the group should schedule the Uber ride.
If I use Joppa Rides to get to a DART rail station or bus stop, do I need a DART pass?
Yes, you will need to purchase a DART ticket or pass if you connect to other DART services like bus or rail. Learn more at DART.org/fares.
If you schedule a trip and then cancel it before it arrives, will the cancelled trip count against your two daily Joppa Rides trips?
If you cancel the trip before you are matched with a driver, there is no penalty and you still have two trips available for the day. If you cancel your trip after you have been matched with a driver, or if you are a no-show for pickup, that counts as a "trip."
DART has the right to suspend, for a reasonable amount of time, individuals who establish a pattern or practice of no-show or late cancellations. All potential suspensions will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
