DART Light Rail Line to Carrollton
Public hearings scheduled for Northwest light rail corridor
DART staff will receive community input at an informational pre-public hearing on Monday, August 13 and a formal public hearing on Thursday, August 23, on the proposed Frankford light rail station location in Carrollton.
There are two branches to the Northwest Corridor light rail project. The section from downtown Dallas to Farmers Branch and Carrollton is scheduled to open in 2008 and the section to Las Colinas and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport is scheduled to open in 2010. The future Frankford station is in the Farmers Branch - Carrollton sector.
The meetings will focus on two potential locations for the Frankford Station. One would be in the northeast quadrant of the rail line on Frankford Road as an at-grade or aerial station, and one would be in the southeast quadrant of the rail line on Frankford Road as an at-grade station.
Locations for rail stations are based on the ability of the location to satisfy three basic criteria:
- Provide rail patrons with convenient access to the rail system;
- Provide opportunities for increased ridership without threatening the integrity of existing neighborhoods; and,
- Allow for cost-effective implementation within the funding allocated in the DART financial plan.
