Dallas DART Board member

Huelon Harrison elected chairman of transit committee

Dallas banker Huelon Harrison, who represents Dallas on the DART Board of Directors, and serves as its chairman, has been elected chairman of the Transit Board Member's Committee of the American Public Transportation Association (APTA).

APTA's Transit Board Member's Committee assists members of transit agency governing boards in carrying out their obligations in an efficient and effective manner. APTA is a nonprofit international association of more than 1,400 public and private member organizations including transit systems and commuter rail operators; planning, design, construction and finance firms; product and service providers; and, academic institutions, transit associations and state departments of transportation.

Harrison, who was named to the 15-member DART Board by the Dallas City Council in 1998, is a vice president and senior lender with Bank One. He specializes in urban banking and small business lending.

Harrison previously served two years as Vice-Chairman and two years as Secretary of the APTA panel. His other involvement with the national organization has been Chairman of the 2005 Nominating Committee and Chairman of the Site Selection Committee. His other local community involvement includes serving as chairman of the Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce, as a trustee of the Dallas African American Museum and, previously, as chair of the City of Dallas Urban Rehabilitation Standards Board. He also is chairman of the West Dallas Community Center and an active member of the Leonard Jones Minority Junior Golf Foundation.
