Media Contact: May 17, 1999 Customers call directly to driver DART testing new home pickup service in Plano Dallas Area Rapid Transit plans to test a limited-area home pickup and delivery service that will respond to customers who call the driver's cell phone.Beginning June 7, DART On-Call will use vans to ferry customers to and from the East Plano Transit Center during peak times, and to shopping and school destinations in the middle of the day. The test location is in north central Plano, according to Tim Newby, assistant vice president of service planning and scheduling. Anyone in the test area is eligible to participate between 5:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. weekdays. The area is seven square miles bounded by Parker Road, Custer Road, Legacy Drive and Avenue K. The fare is $2 for each ride, and also allows a free transfer within 90 minutes. Premium passes and transfers from express routes will also be valid payment. Customers will be able to arrange trips between their homes and the East Plano Transit Center by calling a special number (972-658-2190). While the service begins June 7, customers may begin calling for reservations on June 4. DART On-Call will allow customers to schedule trips up to seven days in advance.
