Media Relations Contact: July 9, 2012 Three new Irving stations to open Orange Line highlights DART service changes coming July 30
The opening of the first phase of the Orange Line, a 5.4-mile section from Bachman Station to Irving Convention Center Station, provides easy access to arts, education, entertainment and businesses while adding three new stations to the DART rail system: University of Dallas, Las Colinas Urban Center and Irving Convention Center. Irving's new rail requires numerous bus and rail changes to avoid duplication of service. Details of the changes can be found in the service change brochures available on DART vehicles, inside transit centers, by visiting www.DART.org, or by calling 214-979-1111. New rail schedule starts July 16, new stations open July 30 Completion of the first phase of Orange Line construction requires minor rail schedule adjustments. Although the new Orange Line stations don't open until July 30, DART begins operating the new schedule early as the final part of operator training. Most light rail customers will notice only small differences, but customers are still encouraged to get a new rail pocket guide for the exact schedules on all lines. The adjustments are due to the Orange Line's sharing right of way with the Green Line between Bachman Station and downtown Dallas and with the Red Line between downtown Dallas and Parker Road Station during rush hours, as well as the LBJ/Central Station at other times. The new rail schedule will have benefits that extend beyond the new Orange Line stations. Rail passengers traveling between Parker Road Station and downtown Dallas will see an extended period of more frequent service during weekday peak periods. Customers traveling to downtown Dallas from either LBJ/Central Station or Bachman Station will see more frequent service at all times. Rail stations get new names A trio of original DART Rail and Trinity Railway Express stations will be sporting new names starting July 30 to better reflect identities created by their evolving neighborhoods or surrounding developments. Pearl Station officially will become Pearl/Arts District Station; Cityplace Station will change to Cityplace/Uptown Station; and South Irving Station will be the Downtown Irving/Heritage Crossing Station. Bus schedules being changed Customers using buses along the new Orange Line will notice a number of changes when 12 routes begin supporting it. They include routes 234, 302, 303, 308, 310, 400, 501 (formerly 301), 507 and 528 that will now serve the Las Colinas Urban Center Station and will no longer serve the North Irving Transit Center. Routes 305 and 306 will be modified and both will serve the new University of Dallas Station. The updated routes are also being renumbered. Route 305 becomes Route 505 and serves West Irving Station; Route 306 becomes Route 508 and serves Downtown Irving/Heritage Crossing Station. A new Route 503 weekday circulator will serve the Las Colinas Urban Center Station, the Urban Center and the entrance to the Irving Convention Center. Two routes, the 202 and 311, will be discontinued. Northwest Plano Park & Ride Opens DART will dedicate and open its newest park and ride lot serving West Plano with seven routes. It hosts Route 208, an express, rush-hour service, between Northwest Plano and downtown Dallas; Route 346 to the Granite Park area in North Plano; Route 348 to Legacy employers, including Ericsson, Bank of America, Frito-Lay, Pizza Hut and J.C. Penney; Route 451 from the Jack Hatchell Transit Center; and Route 452 from the Parker Road Station. Other bus routes affected include the 183 midday extension from the Addison Transit Center and 347 extension from Presbyterian Plano Center. Fair Share Parking, DART's paid parking program, will be in operation with spaces for 564 vehicles. Other Routes altered Additional service changes occurring throughout the DART system include Route 021, shortened between Red Bird Transit Center/Kiest Boulevard and the East Transfer Center in downtown Dallas; Routes 024, 052, 059, 350 and 405 will keep earlier implemented detours permanent; all Route 110 trips will use the HOV lane on I-30; Route 111 will operate via Fair Park and the Culver/Winslow area, not the I-30 HOV lane; Route 515 will discontinue Sunday service; and Route 521 will extend service from Northwest Highway to Cityplace/Uptown Station. Bus routes with schedule changes only are the 26, 52, 59, 210, 307, 333, 350, 362, 405, 453, 463, 466, 467, 488, 502, 506, 515, 522, 525, 526, 527, 531, 532, 533, 534, 535, 536, 538, 544, 547, 548, 550, 554, 568, 574, 582, 583, 591, 592, 593, 594, 595 and 597. -- 30 -- |
