Right of Way Information

REQUEST FOR ACCESS TO RIGHT OF WAY (ROW) OR OTHER PROPERTY OF:
DALLAS AREA RAPID TRANSIT (DART) OR
DART & THE FORT WORTH TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY (the "T"), dba as
TRINITY RAILWAY EXPRESS (TRE)

Public or private projects involving communication lines, electrical lines, pipelines, water/storm drainage, roadways, parking lots or other uses that require crossing or encroaching into DART or TRE right of way (ROW) must be approved by DART/TRE engineers. TRE is the 34-mile rail corridor between Dallas & Fort Worth, jointly owned by DART and the "T". All approved uses shall be licensed and issued a contractor's right of entry permit. Operations within DART and TRE corridors include both passenger and/or freight service.

To request the use of DART or TRE ROW, please submit the following:
  • a written request describing the purpose for the use of DART or TRE ROW
  • a completed application
  • a project specific engineering checklist
  • signed & sealed engineering plans and profiles clearly showing DART or TRE ROW
    — two (2) sets when freight operations are involved or
    — five (5) sets when light rail transit (LRT) operations are involved
  • a $2,500 non-refundable application fee

* DART engineers developed "engineering checklists" to assist you in the design of your project, whether it be crossing under or over freight tracks or LRT tracks. The checklists refer to DART's Design Criteria Manual and/or to American Railway Engineering and Maintenance of Way (AREMA) Manual.
