Dallas Stars logo Through Apr. 8 The Dallas Stars return to the ice and begin another marathon season in search of the coveted Stanley Cup. Catch all the action at American Airlines Center, 2500 Victory Ave. Information: 214-467-8277 or dallasstars.com.

Dallas Mavericks logo Through Apr. 14 The Dallas Mavericks return to the hard wood with new determination to advance through the NBA playoffs and go all the way to the finals. You can catch all the exciting home game action at American Airlines Center, 2500 Victory Ave. Information: 214-747-6287 or nba.com/mavericks.

Turkey Trot logo Nov. 26 The Turkey Trot is a 42-year Dallas tradition for those who like to prepare for a Thanksgiving feast with a brisk 8-mile run through downtown Dallas, across the Trinity River into Oak Cliff, and back. There's also a 3-mile Fun Run/Walk and festivities before and after the race. The starting gun is at 9 a.m. at City Hall Plaza, 1500 Marilla St. Information: 214-954-0500 or thetrot.com.

Dallas Lone Star Classic
Nov. 28 The second annual Dallas Lone Star Football Classic, featuring Texas Southern University against the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff, will take place in the Cotton Bowl in Fair Park on Saturday, November 28. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. The game also features two of the best bands in the land, the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff Marching Musical Machine of the Mid-South and the Texas Southern University Ocean of Soul marching band. Peruna logo Through Nov. 28 The SMU Mustangs face tough Conference USA and non-conference rivals in six home games at Gerald J. Ford Stadium on the SMU campus at Mockingbird Lane and Central Expressway:

Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis Dec. 5 The Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis is a Fort Worth holiday favorite featuring a 5K run/walk, 1-mile Reindeer Fun Run, educational and informational booths, festival food, children's activities, live music, demonstrations, door prizes, awards and much more. This family event begins at 2:30 p.m. in Sundance Square. Information: fortworthjinglebellrun.kintera.org.

2009 MetroPCS Dallas White Rock Marathon Presented by NexBank
Dec. 11-13 The White Rock Marathon, internationally recognized as one of the premier marathons, is actually a big three-day event. It begins on Dec. 11 and 12 with a Health & Fitness Expo at the Dallas Convention Center, and a 5K Fun Run and Walk at City Hall Plaza and a pre-race pasta dinner at the Hyatt Regency on Dec. 12. The main event marathon, a half marathon, five-person relay and post-race party begin and end at American Airlines Center on Dec. 13. Information: runtherock.com.
  • Via DART Rail Red Line or Blue Line to Convention Center Station for the Fitness Expo and 5K
  • Via DART Rail Red Line or Blue Line to Union Station for the Pasta Dinner
  • Via DART Rail Green Line to Victory Station for the Marathon and Post-Race Party
    Red Line and Blue Line riders: Take any DART Rail train to West End Station, and transfer to any train displaying the word "VICTORY" in its overhead destination signs. If you're already on a train with "VICTORY" in its destination signs, keep your seat. You are on your way to Victory Station at American Airlines Center!

NCA Senior and Junior High School National Championships Dec. 28-29 The National Cheerleaders Association brings their Senior and Junior High School National Championships to the Dallas Convention Center for two days of high-energy competition. Teams from across the nation will compete in a variety of levels and divisions for the right to be called the best in the land. Information: nca.varsity.com.
