DART Away The Inches
With the holidays behind us, it's time to focus on the new year and the new you. If that involves shedding a few holiday pounds, DART can help you or at least get you to places that will.

Texas Skatium is a great way to have fun with the family. Bring your own roller skates or rent some on-site and hit the rink. It's located along Bus Route 385, which also serves Downtown Rowlett Station.

You don't have to be vegan to appreciate Spiral Diner - an institution that's been turning out veggie burgers, meatless Mexican food and surprisingly sumptuous vegan desserts since 2001. This local favorite is homey, healthy and heartier than you might think, and it's only a couple of blocks from the 6th Street Stop of the Dallas Streetcar.

Central Market offers cooking classes that run the gamut, and the instructors are sometimes celebrity chefs. Not all classes are for the health-conscious, but some are, and the gourmet grocery chain is known for fresh, wholesome ingredients. Check out the class offerings on the website and expand your horizons as a cook. The original Dallas-area Central Market is just a couple of blocks from Lovers Lane Station.

Rock climbing may not sound like an ideal winter activity, but at North Texas Outdoor Pursuit Center, you can pursue this hobby in the comfort of the great indoors. The huge walls at this facility housed in a towering former grain silo can accommodate all skill levels. Climb any of 61 climbing routes, ranging from 25 to 121 feet. Instructors, guides and mentors are available to teach the fundamentals to novices. The adventure awaits just a few blocks from Downtown Carrollton Station.

If it's one of those sunny winter days that puts the "fair" in Fahrenheit, you might want to take the advantage of the wealth of hike-and-bike trails accessible by DART. Just for starters, try the White Rock Lake Trail near White Rock Station; the Bachman Lake Trail near Bachman Station; the Campion Trail, just east of Las Colinas Urban Center Station; the DARTable Santa Fe Trestle Trail, accessible by 8th & Corinth Station; or the Chisholm Trail, about a half-mile west of Downtown Plano Station.
