Love Field West Community construction information


Love Field West Community:

Neighborhood Construction Advisory - West of Love Field
Construction on DART's exciting Green Line expansion into Northwest Dallas, Farmers Branch and Carrollton has begun in earnest and will continue until passenger service officially begins in December 2010. Listed below is a brief outline of how some of the major streets in the neighborhood west of Love Field will be affected.

Denton Drive at Mockingbird Lane
Motorists should expect periodic lane reduction on both streets as various construction stages proceed during the project.


Wyman Street at Denton Drive
Wyman is closed until further notice. Access is available via a bus lane from Burbank. View a street location map.



Through approximately the end of November, Denton between Egan and Mockingbird is closed for paving and rail work. One lane is scheduled to reopen at the end of November with work on the road scheduled to be completed at the end of January. View a street location map.

Traffic is reduced to one lane each way at W. Mockingbird Lane and Denton Drive. View a street location map.

There is a traffic switch on Denton Dr. from north of Hawes Ave. to Lovedale for paving work. The northbound lanes are closed and traffic is detoured onto the southbound lanes with one lane open in each direction. Once the northbound lanes are completed, traffic will be switched to the new lanes while southbound lanes are paved. View a street location map.

An Update on Improvements Under Way on Little Denton Drive
Construction related to DART's Light Rail Green Line has begun along Little Denton Drive, with a series of enhancements including additional vinyl-coated fencing, added landscaping, curbs and sidewalk upgrades. Upon completion, these improvements will increase safety for the entire neighborhood. View a street location map.

Work has been planned in phases, with each street closure affecting one block at a time. Sidewalks will remain open during the road construction portion of the project to maximize access for residents. The roadway demolition phases are scheduled to begin on or around the following dates, weather and other circumstances permitting:
PHASE 1 - Empire Central to Anson, Nov. 9, 2009
PHASE 2 - Bombay to Langdon, Nov. 30, 2009
PHASE 3 - Langdon to Amherst, Jan. 4, 2010
PHASE 4 - Amherst to Burbank, Feb. 2, 2010


Beginning approximately Monday, November 16, Little Denton will be closed between Empire Central and Lovedale. View a street location map.

Denton is closed from Shorecrest to Webb Chapel Ext. for underground utility and bridge work until further notice. Detour is available via Harry Hines. View a street location map.

Walnut Hill/Denton Area construction information


Walnut Hill/Denton Area:

Construction for DART's exciting Green Line Expansion Program into Northwest Dallas, Farmers Branch and Carrollton, is underway and will continue until the new passenger service begins in December 2010. Construction in this area will necessitate occasional traffic shifts and detours as some of the local streets and infrastructure are improved.

Webb Chapel Extension at Denton Drive is reduced to one lane in each direction for the installation of underground utilities until further notice. View a street location map.

Denton Drive is closed from Storey Lane to Webb Chapel until further notice. View a street location map.

Denton Drive between Lombardy and Walnut Hill will be closed except for local traffic. Motorists are encouraged to look for local road detour signage. View a street location map.

 Century Drive between Doric Street and Denton Drive will permanently close. Local business traffic wishing to access Denton Drive from the east will need to detour along Doric Street to Abernathy Avenue and Lombardy Lane. This work will be followed by subsequent traffic shifts at this location--each lasting for several weeks--to allow for the reconstruction of Century Drive with a direct connection to Abernathy Lane. Road construction on Century Drive is anticipated to continue until Fall 2009.

Walnut Hill near Denton Drive may have daily lane closures. View a street location map.

Beginning Monday, November 9, Walnut Hill at the rail guideway will have various lanes closed for pavement demolition and street modification work. The work will continue through approximately mid-January. View a street location map.

There is an altered lane configuration on Denton, north of Forest Lane, to accommodate the next phase of paving. View a street location map.

Farmers Branch Community construction information


Farmers Branch Community:

Farmers Branch On-Call Boarding With Other DART Routes at Farmers Branch Park & Ride - Effective October 20, 2008
All Farmers Branch On-Call vehicles drop off and board passengers at the temporary transit center on Denton Drive.

This is the location currently being used by Bus Routes 44, 185, 204, 247, 331, 400 and 486. Boarding will take place at the sign marked:

All DART services will use this stop until the new Green Line rail station opens across the street in December 2010.

On Denton at Villa Creek, between I-635 and Farmers Branch Lane, traffic is northbound only for demolition and paving of the southbound lanes. On Villa Creek, traffic is eastbound only. View a street location map.

Construction on the Rawhide Creek vehicular bridge has been completed. Southbound Denton Drive between Farmers Branch Lane and Villa Creek remains closed until the work on Villa Creek is completed. Southbound Denton Drive will be detoured west on Valley View, then south on the I-35E service road to Harry Hines. View a street location map.

Various lanes may be closed on Valley View Lane at Denton as signal work is done in the median. View a street location map.

Squire Place at Denton Drive is closed until further notice. View a street location map.

Carrollton Community construction information


Carrollton Community:

Hatcher Community construction information


Hatcher Community:

From Wednesday, November 18 through approximately Wednesday, November 25, 2nd Ave at the rail guideway will be closed. Motorists can use Pine Street for the detour. View a street location map.

Traffic has been switched to the newly paved lanes on Hatcher at Scyene. One lane in each direction is open. View a street location map.

Orange Line Updates:

KEY ACTIVITIES
  • Construction is moving along rapidly, and a large majority of the construction activity that required lane restrictions around Harry Hines Blvd. has been completed. Crews have finished a large majority of the bridge substructure work and are headed west into the Trinity River area. All Orange Line Construction traffic control has been removed from Harry Hines Blvd. Construction of the bridge superstructure (deck, rail, etc.) may require some temporary night closures (9 p.m. to 5 a.m.) Motorists are advised to monitor Orange Line construction alerts to help minimize any impacts, as this area is still under construction. Information regarding these closures will be communicated.

  • There will continue to be heavy construction activity along Teleport from Riverside Dr. thru to Las Colinas Blvd. and into the median of Lake Carolyn Pkwy. Traffic in the Teleport/Riverside area will continue to be in its current configuration for the next several weeks. Motorists are advised to use caution when traveling through this area and obey the advised, posted speed limit of 25 mph. Pedestrians need to remember that it is not safe for them to enter construction zones, so they will need to use alternate walking and jogging routes. Teleport Blvd. is closed permanently at SH-114 to thru traffic. Access to business drives along Teleport will remain open. Additional lane restrictions in this area may be required for crews to complete activities. Please use caution in this area with changing traffic configurations.


  • HARRY HINES/NORTHWEST HWY./I-35E/JUSTICE WAY AREA: Crews will continue bridge construction from just west of Harry Hines/ Northwest Hwy./Spur 482 toward Justice Way requiring various lane restrictions and traffic delays. Motorists are advised to monitor Orange Line Construction alerts to help minimize travel impacts. Please plan your routes, allow extra time to reach your destination, and observe any changes in speed limits or detours.

  • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • There will continue to be temporary night closures (9 p.m. to 5 a.m.) on the ramp to eastbound Northwest Highway from Harry Hines Blvd. for crews to complete the remainder of the bridge construction. Information regarding these closures will be communicated.

  • Bridge construction including girder erection will continue for the Harry Hines/I-35E/Trinity River bridge structure from Jamison/Bachman Station to the west side of the levy on the Spur 482 frontage road. Certain aspects of bridge construction will require full closures to avoid work over live traffic. During the nights of Monday, November 23 and Tuesday, November 24 there will be night closures of Harry Hines Blvd. from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Signage will be present to direct motorists.   • There will be lane restrictions to southbound Justice Way at Spur 482 as crews continue bridge construction in this area.

  • Girder erection operations will require full lane closures to avoid work over live traffic. The tentative schedule is as follows (please note that all dates are tentative as they do not account for weather delays or other schedule impacts):
    Week of November 16:
    Nights of November 20 and November 21
    (9 p.m. to 5 a.m.)
    - Westbound Spur 482 and the ramps to westbound Spur 482

    Nights of November 20 and 21 (9 p.m. to 5 a.m.) - Southbound I-35E

    Week of November 30:
    Nights of December 1, 2, 3 and 4 (9 p.m. to 5 a.m.) - Outside lane and shoulder of westbound Spur 482

    Night of December 2 (9 p.m. to 5 a.m.) - Justice Way (Flaggers will be present to direct traffic)

  • Following girder erection operations, additional night closures will be required to avoid bridge superstructure construction activities over live traffic. The tentative schedule is as follows (please note that all dates are tentative as they do not account for weather delays or other schedule impacts):
    Week of November 30:
    Nights of November 30 and December 1, 2, 3 and 4 (9 p.m. to 5 a.m.) - Northbound I-35E

    Week of December 7:
    Nights of December 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 (9 p.m. to 5 a.m.) - Southbound I-35E

    Please note that all dates are tentative as they do not account for weather delays or other schedule impacts.


  • TRINITY RIVER AREA: Bridge construction has moved into the Trinity River area. Motorists can expect to see increased activity in the Trinity as the bridge structure continues to move west.

  • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • Lane restrictions may be required along the Spur 482 Trinity River Bridge as bridge construction continues.


  • SPUR 482/FEDEX/CENTRAL FREIGHT: Crews will continue utility relocation work along the Spur 482 frontage road in front of FedEx and Central Freight.

    CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES:
  • Grading
  • Utility relocation
  • Driveway reconstruction
  • Walls


  • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • Restrictions of the right lane of the Spur 482 frontage road may be required around the areas of FedEx and Central Freight for utility relocations, walls, and grading activities.


  • There will continue to be lane restrictions of southbound Justice Way near Spur 482 as crews continue bridge construction in this area.


  • SH 114 FRONTAGE ROAD AREA: Expect construction activity and increased truck traffic along the SH 114 frontage road around Loop 12 and the old Texas Stadium.

    CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES:
  • Grading


  • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • Activities will require restrictions of the right lane of the westbound SH 114 frontage road. Please use caution with the increased construction traffic.


  • TELEPORT BLVD./RIVERSIDE DRIVE AREA: There will continue to be heavy construction activity along Teleport from Riverside Drive through to Las Colinas Blvd. Traffic along Riverside Drive/Teleport Blvd. will continue to be in its current configuration for the next several weeks as crews continue utility relocation work.

    Teleport Blvd. is closed permanently at SH 114 to thru traffic. Access to business drives along Teleport will remain open. Additional lane restrictions in this area may be required for crews to complete activities. Please use caution in this area with changing traffic configurations. Pedestrians need to remember that it is not safe for them to enter construction zones, so they will need to use alternate walking and jogging routes. Motorists are advised to use caution when traveling through this area and obey the advised, posted speed limit of 25 mph.

    CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES:
  • Utility relocation - The utility relocation activities at the Teleport Blvd. and Riverside Drive intersection may require some night work to reduce impact to motorists in the area. See map for lane configuration (PDF file opens in a new window).


  • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • Teleport will continue to be closed to thru traffic just after the Miss Bloomingdale's Academy entrance.


  • Expect lane restrictions along Teleport Blvd. and Las Colinas Blvd. as construction crews continue utility relocation work. Some activities may require night work to minimize impacts to motorists in the area.


  • Utility relocation activities for the Teleport/Riverside area is scheduled to wrap up during the month of November. Various temporary lane restrictions may be required for crews to complete their activities in this area. Information regarding these restrictions will be communicated as these activities draw closer.


  • LAKE CAROLYN PARKWAY AREA: Construction activity is quickly ramping up in along the Lake Carolyn Pkwy. area. Current activities include utility relocations that will require various lane closures and traffic configurations to provide a safe work space for crews to complete construction activities. In early December crews are expected to begin rail welding operations just south of California Crossing that will require lane restrictions. Station construction activities are also scheduled to begin in early December with grading operations that will impact traffic on both northbound and southbound Lake Carolyn Pkwy., south of O'Connor.

    Pedestrians need to remember that it is not safe for them to enter construction zones, so they will need to use alternate pet walking and jogging routes. Motorists are also asked to monitor construction updates and observe and changed speed limits or traffic configurations when traveling through this construction zone. Additional lane restrictions and rolling closures may be required to provide a safe work area as crews continue to progress with the project.

  • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • There will be lane restrictions on the inside, median lanes of both northbound and southbound Lake Carolyn Pkwy. for utility relocation activities, this work will be on-going for several weeks.


  • Utility relocations along Las Colinas Blvd. and into Lake Carolyn Pkwy. will be on-going during November. These relocations will require various lane restrictions and a "rolling" closure that will direct traffic around the activity happening within the median.


  • Crews will continue utility relocations on a section of southbound Lake Carolyn Pkwy. The traffic on southbound Lake Carolyn Pkwy. will be continue to be detoured to the northbound side of Lake Carolyn Pkwy. from just south of O'Connor to California Crossing. The traffic configuration will involve one lane of northbound traffic and one lane of southbound traffic both traveling on the northbound lanes of Lake Carolyn Pkwy. (side furthest from Lake Carolyn). Please see map of configuration 5 (PDF file opens in a new window).


  • Crews are scheduled to continue track work requiring the closure of a section of northbound Lake Carolyn Pkwy. beginning just north of California Crossing and stretching south toward Las Colinas Blvd. Signage will be present to direct motorists.   • Rail welding operations are scheduled to begin the week of December 7 just south of California Crossing on northbound Lake Carolyn Pkwy. that will require changes to the current traffic configuration. Details regarding this traffic change will be communicated as activities draw closer. Information regarding the upcoming traffic configuration will be provided.


  • Construction activity for the Las Colinas Urban Center Station is scheduled to begin the week of December 30. Construction activities will require lane closures on both northbound and southbound Lake Carolyn Pkwy. south of O'Connor. These activities are scheduled to take place for several months. Details will be provided as construction activities draw closer. Information regarding the upcoming traffic configuration will be provided.


  • Please note that all dates are tentative as they do not account for weather delays or other schedule impacts.

    CONVENTION CENTER AREA: Expect to see increased truck traffic and construction activity around the Convention Center area starting with grading operations. Drill shaft activities are scheduled to begin around mid-November in this area.

  • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • Expect construction activity for the Irving Convention Center Station along Spur 348. Lane restrictions may be required along Spur 348 for crews to complete these activities.


  • NORTH LAKE COLLEGE/CARPENTER RANCH AREA: Construction activity is scheduled to move into the Carpenter Ranch area around the Meadow Creek/Greenpark Dr. intersection starting with utility relocations in early November. Activity will move into the North Lake College area starting with grading during the month of December. Information regarding traffic impacts will be communicated as activities draw closer.

    ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • Expect lane restrictions on eastbound Hidden Ridge near Verizon and LaQuinta headquarters for utility relocation work.


  • Utility relocation activity will continue at the intersection of Green Park Dr. and Meadow Creek. Various lane restrictions will be required for crews to complete these activities. Please use caution with changing traffic configurations when traveling through this area.


  • WALNUT HILL/HURD AREA: Construction activity in scheduled to move into the Walnut Hill/Hurd area in November starting with utility relocations. Information regarding traffic impacts will be communicated as activities draw closer.



    Blue Line to Rowlett Updates:

    Blue Line construction information

    Clearing operations will occur in the area north of the rail right of way. Expect construction equipment to enter the work area from Dexham Road. View a street location map.

    Beginning the week of November 2, crews will be conducting clearing operations east of the Downtown Garland Station. Weather permitting, work is expected to continue for approximately two-three weeks. View a street location map.

    Any time you undertake a construction project, the possibility for danger is elevated. DART is urging everyone to be extra careful around its facilities, vehicles and especially the construction areas. Here are 10 tips you should know.

    1. Stop, look and listen for DART vehicles.
    2. DART Safely logo
    3. Cross the street or track at designated crosswalks only.
    4. Never walk, ride or play in front of or behind a DART vehicle.
    5. Children should always exit the bus through the front door.
    6. Do not walk, ride or play in a construction area.
    7. Never walk, ride or play on or near railroad tracks.
    8. Always stand behind the textured warning strips on rail platforms.
    9. Be careful when driving or turning across train tracks.
    10. Never try to beat a train through a crossing.
    11. Remember: Safety begins with you. Talk to your family.
